Memories and Moments

  • Caleb the care giver.

One day I went to the hospital to pick up a prescription, as I walked in through the main entrance doors into the lobby I saw Caleb pushing a patient in a wheelchair. They were engaged in a conversation with each other and they both had smiles on their faces. I stopped for a moment to witness my son caring for a patient. He was wearing his scrubs and the hospital environment looked good on him too, he was in his element. Caleb noticed me standing there and the smile on his face turned brighter, his face lit up. My face lit up along with his, we exchanged a quick greeting as I did not want to interrupt his duties. I walked away feeling so proud of my son and was sure to tell him that as soon as he walked in the door that night after his shift.

  • Caleb the selfless.

Where to begin is something that is unbelievably hard and almost impossible for a person as amazing and extraordinary as Caleb. But I’ll try my best to start with who he was as a person. Caleb was the most kind hearted, giving, genuine, loyal, funny, brilliantly smart, completely weird and goofy and silly and childish all in a good way and most of all, outstandingly selfless. He was even more than these words I’m trying to put together to describe him. Let’s just say Caleb knew what he wanted, he was doing the most selfless thing someone could do. Someone could be, without trying. He was a giver, a caregiver, a CNA, a person who was going to take care of anyone and everyone he could. He was going to make a difference, he already has made a difference for just being him for being here on this earth. Him not being here doesn’t mean that’s stopped. He’s still making an impact to people and the world he has touched. A truly beautiful soul.

  • He will forever live...

He will forever live on through us in our thoughts and hearts. Once you’ve been touched or even just in the presence of this outstandingly goofy, loving, beautiful, smart, sarcastic and witty, kind, courageous, adventurous, free spirited beautiful soul, he’s always with you, always there for you and always listening to you. That’s Caleb Michael Gervickas. Forever in my mind, forever in my heart.

  • Turn down that music.

He introduced me to the EDM community of his. He would blast his music so loud I was sure he’d get yelled at by his dad to turn his music down. But he didn’t care he needed to dance and act silly and free while listening to the music he loved. That helped him express himself. Every second of my time with him will forever be the best time of my life at that time in my life and I’m so thankful I met him when I did because I needed someone like him.

  • Succeed in any part of Healthcare.

I first met Caleb when I was his teacher at MaryAnn's CNA training school. He was so funny and fun to have in class. During clinicals, I saw him blossom, and saw how caring he was towards others. Later I had the pleasure of working with Caleb at Glenwood, as his charge nurse, and later as his supervisor. Caleb did such a great job caregiving, and then became a med-aid. When he told me he had applied at the hospital, I was so happy for him. I knew that he would succeed in any part of Healthcare that he went into. I know he loved his motorcycle and loved riding.

  • Just want to help people.

When discussing his future Caleb once told me “I just want to help people Mia, that’s all I want to do.”
